Aside from being a Thorpe Signature Premier Comfort Club Member, the most important thing you can do for your comfort system is to ensure it has a clean, quality air filter in place. Clean systems last longer and provide cleaner, healthier air.

If you can see through a filter, you can just imagine all the small particles getting through. On the other hand, some filters that are excellent at filtering out even the smallest particles are also restrictive to airflow. Filters that are too restrictive (either loaded or clean) reduce airflow, increase operating costs, lead to premature failure, and may increase operating sound levels.

Filters are rated using a standard known as a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value). These effectiveness ratings range from 1 – 16 with 1 being least effective and 16 being the most effective (aside from bypass filtration). The human body is an effective filter and scores about an 8 on this scale, making merv8 a viable choice. When a filter is rated higher, it can provide the body with an opportunity to rest and recuperate.
